Rebel was the dog that started me on a 10 year journey of laughter, tears, ups and downs.

These many life experiences can only be learned through the soft trusting eyes of a Shiloh Shepherd. Rebel was so much a part of our family. When Rebel was only 14 months old when he took me into the ring for my first time and he proceeded to show me how it was done. Walking out of the ring with a Best in Show was so much more than I could have ever dreamed.

Rebel has been gone now for over two years and his presence is missed each and every day, but I wouldn't have changed a thing. Till we meet again Rebel, I miss you.

Mom, we want to call her Blossom after the TV show.” Blossom? I thought to myself? I don’t think so I quickly concluded, also to myself. But I had told my daughters Jessica and Sarah that they could name our new puppy, so I had to think quickly. My mother wit kicked in, and on the stereo the old song by the Knack was playing… and we all know what a catchy tune that was. “MY MY MY Sharona, wooooo!” and I said, hey, how about Sharona??? We all danced and sang along, and Sharona it was!

Sharona was our third Shiloh Shepherd, she was promoted to be “something special” to us as she was one of the first second generation litters born from Shiloh’s Secret Samson Woo. Sharona was the “happy” puppy of the litter. It was on Super Bowl Sunday that I drove up to western New York and picked her up during a blizzard. She was a beautiful and very happy puppy.

As the months went by, Sharona grew into a beautiful bitch. She was different than Cheyanne and Trinka, our other two Shilohs. Sharona was built like a tank; she had incredible heft to her and an attitude like none I had met so far. Every thing she encountered was her playground. She loved people, places and things. Her instincts were sharp as a tack and the few times I saw her instincts in action, I was in awe.

Trinka and Sharona were inseparable and made a great team. Trinka wowed them with her beauty and Sharona won their hearts. Many of the early owners were hooked on Shilohs because of Sharona’s personality. She is a good talker even to this day. Of course, over the years Sharona touched many lives. We all know the emotional support our dogs give us, the moments that make people laugh, and the special stories we could tell forever. So many people that are here today are a part of her life in some way or another, and they are all special when I tell her story.

When we all moved to Virginia with Diane (my kennel partner and sister), Sharona took to Diane like her new best friend. Over the next years Diane would take her to work, and Sharona just naturally went on to be a therapy dog at the Village of ChildHELP working with abused and abandoned children. She was made honorary AOD (Administrator on Duty) by the staff at ChildHELP. She actually tracked a child who had run away and brought him back, and all the children would love playing with her because she had a way of gaining the children’s trust. She is credited with bringing children out from the silence mode of abuse and starting them to communicate with their therapists. Earlier this year, her rear end became too weak to climb the steps, and she could no longer go to the Village to be with the children. The children ask for her to this day.

We now stay on the mountain that Sharona and her family love so much. We live on a beautiful river that has a little gravel island named after Sharona.

Note: Sharona was selected to be our inaugural "Golden Oldie" Shiloh prior to her passing barely a week before her 13th birthday. Be sure to read the full-version

My name is Joe Adams. My mom, is Shari Adams and we have Majestic Knights Kennel. And this is about me and my Shiloh, Kaci.

When I was 4, I saw my mom show our Merlot. I wanted to show dogs. 6 YEARS LATER. ..now I have a dog that I show. Her name is Kaci. She was a gift to me from Deb Dennis.

Kaci is shy, but stubborn. In a way, she is the best dog ever!!! Sometimes she makes me mad, but then after two minutes, I love her again. Kaci is a follower and follows her sister, Krissi.

The first time I ever showed her, it was in Orange, Texas at our first NKC show. When me and Kaci showed, we came in second place behind my mom. There were four Shilohs in the ring. . . all of them were sisters. Our second show was in Hutto, Texas at the IABCA (whatever that means) show. When it was time for me to go in the ring, it was Kaci vs. her sister Keeley. Kaci took first. Then I went up against my other dog, Maddi and I lost horribly. But it doesn’t matter to me because they are both my dogs.

Kaci and I have lots of fun at home. We like to sit and lay on the floor. She loves to get her tummy rubs and then I love to have her go to bed with me at night. But she is getting very big and I don’t have much room in my bed anymore.

I am so glad there are Shiloh Shepherds and I am so glad that my mom and I have several of them, but mostly I am glad I have Kaci.

Nick is the First Shiloh Shepherd to become a part of a READ (Reading Education Assistance Dog), what these dogs do is go into libraries and schools an sit with children between the ages of 5-12, while the kids read to the dogs. This program is a sponsored thru Therapy Dogs Incorporated and the Delta Society. READ originated in Salt Lake City Utah and there are only 745 dogs that involved in this program within the US, Nick being one of them.

READ has had much success with its programs. Most of the children who participate have reading disorders, problems with reading comprehension, difficulty reading out loud in front of a classroom, just to name a few, but any child is allowed to participate in this program. They have found that children enjoy reading to the dogs because the dogs don't judge them. By reading to the dogs it has shown great improvement in children, they feel more relaxed, the attendance seems to be better, they want to participate in school activities.

Nick attended her first session last month and she was the hit of the Library. The children have to sign up to read to the dogs and it seemed that just about every child came back twice to read to her. The kids just loved her and she did extremely well. After this Nick will have bookmarkers with her name on it and her picture stating that they have read with Nick tonight.

I can't tell you how rewarding it feels to be part of this new program. Nick is just remarkable, I wasn't sure how she was going to handle the situation, but she is a fabulous representative of the Breed. I can only say that after just one session a lot of children are looking up Shiloh Shepherds and asking their parents if they can have one. By Nick doing this program she has opened the doors for Shilohs everywhere. She can now go in to any library or school and do what she was taught to do--let the Children read to her. I am very proud of Nick. Anyone wanting to know more about the program can visit the Therapy Dogs of Vermont website.

THE JOY OF A COMPANION

Having grown up with German Shepherds, I was always a fancier of that breed. However, I didn't like the looks, health and temperament of the modern-day shepherds, and I moved on to a different breed. Well - that is, until I met Elvis, Tessa's dad. I was so impressed with his character and temperament, and when I found out that he was going to be a father, I got all excited about the prospect of owning a Shiloh Shepherd of my own. Did I mention, that Elvis is quite handsome, too?

As soon as I met Skye, I had a good feeling about her. I contacted Gloria and she found me 'worthy' to own one of her pups, and so the long wait began. Let me tell you - eight weeks can be a long, long time. In the end, I had to decide between three gorgeous girls. I picked Tessa, because she came running up to me every time I called her.

It took Tessa about two days to adjust to her new home and her curiosity won over her fear of all the new things she all in a sudden had to encounter. She loves to be a little drama-queen at times, but forgets all about the drama after a few minutes....What a clown!

She quickly made friends with her new "brother" Daytona, who was not quite sure how to handle this little whiny fluff-ball. He put up a brave face and decided to be a good boy, no matter how much she was bouncing on him and perforating his floppy lips with those pointy, little shark teeth of hers. He also taught her, that being a little brat doesn't get her anywhere, and she respects him tremendously. Well - looking at this behemoth of a dog, who wouldn't?

Tessa enjoys meeting people, and every other day I take her to the schoolbus stop to pick up the neighbor kids. They love her and enjoy running and playing with her. Quite the wild scene! When she gets tired from being cuddled, she will lay down and go to sleep. I just love her disposition - she is cautious, but inquisitive, and quite the little talker too. Tessa is definitely a keeper, I think I'm getting hooked on Shilohs. (Love you, Daytona!!)

Thank you Skye, thank you Elvis - that doggy-marriage sure gave us a wonderful fur-kid.
