CHAPTER NEWS - SUMMER 2006:
Featured monthly as part of our eNewsletter:

Canada:
It’s been a few months since the last Canada update and there’s been a lot to catch up on.

Since the last report, there have been two large summer RBCSWO shows here in Canada.  The Caledonia Show in June (which was moved to Binbrook due to civil distrurbances), and the largest summer show at Woodstock in July.  Both shows had great Shiloh & supporter respresentation!

At Binbrook, the all Canuck showing of Shilohs dominated with a Best In Show (Gunner), two Reserve Best in Shows (Chain & Lexi), AND 2 x Best in Show Puppy and a Reserve BIS Puppy (Brodie)!  Many of the younger Shilohs are doing great, working their way towards both their breed and Canadian championship titles!  The judging task was extremely tough and all the Shilohs in attendance (Jax, Mace, Magnus) looked nothing short fantastic.

Woodstock is one of the largest Canadian dog show events, with a monstrous CKC show going on in conjunction with the RBCSWO show.  Being early July, the heat is always a challenge to contend with, but with some cool shade/fans operated by generators/BBQs/music/and of course – good friends, the weekend was a blast.

Given the intense heat, and that the show fell on a beautiful summer weekend (cottage time!), we had a great turnout of 17 beautiful Shilohs – many under 2 years of age (with a few of the “older” – 3 year old Shilohs taking a break this weekend – Gunner/Chain).

Again, the Shilohs were quite successful with Lola taking a Group 1, and Brodie taking both a Group 1 and another BIS Puppy!  The show also marked the debut for a number of “new” Shilohs, including Rianna, Rina, and Zephyr.

And if that wasn’t enough fun, a number of Shilohs were honored with the RBCSWO 2005 Top Dog Awards.  They were as follows:

  • Gunner took the 2005 Shiloh Plush Breed title, 2nd overall in the Herding Group, and 4th place overall in the Top Dog competition (as a bit of trivia first overall in group went to Iceman – a White Shepherd from Hoofprint, who was the breeder of Orbit that is found in some of the Shiloh lines).
  • Chain won the 2005 Shiloh Smooth Breed title, 3rd overall in the Herding Group, and 5th place overall in the Top Dog competition!
  • Chuck won the 2005 Shiloh Plush Breed Top Puppy title.

In addition to the above mentioned dogs, but not present at the show:

  • Meadow placed 10th in the Top Puppy Overall & 4th in the Group 2
    Puppy standings
  • Torch placed 5th in the Group 2 Puppy standings
  • Johann finished 4th in the Group 2 standings

The next show for the RBCSWO will be at Petrolia in September, and then the year end show in Brampton in October featuring the RBCSWO “Cavalcade of Champions” (open to all Canadian Champions) on the Friday night, and a Shiloh Specialty on the Sunday morning.

Finally, the ISSDC Canada website has started to have some work done on it.  Canadian members are encouraged to forward photos for the site, and we hope to have the forums functional by the end of the season.  Http://www.shilohshepherds.ca

Pacific Northwest:
The ISSDCWest eGroup is a joint project of the ISSDC-PNW (Pacific Northwest) and the ISSDC-West Coast area chapters. As our geography covers a vast area, we plan on many virtual activities and fun.

SouthEast:
The South East Chapter has been real busy this summer.  On June 24th we had our First Annual Dog Show with the NCA.  It was a small gathering but a ton of fun.  One thing unusual about this dog show is the Companion Animal Class for spayed or neutered dogs.  It was great fun to see everyone showing their dogs.  We did not get the results out as planned due to the fact that we forgot to assign someone as records keeper for the Chapter!  This goes under lessons learned for next year.  Sorry to all the winners, we may still get it posted.

On July 29th, Erica Pytlovany held a Rally-O seminar at Childhelp.  Everyone had a blast practicing their obedience skills Rally-O style.  Thanks Erica for a great day.  One of the best parts of the day was spent with the special needs children at Childhelp.  They just love our dogs and our dogs love their attention.  A dog’s love crosses all boundaries!

The next event is an Agility Seminar planned for mid September.  Once again, Erica will be leading this event.  We will be working at an agility training center in Virginia.  More information will be sent to the Chapter via email.  Keep your eyes open!  This should be a really challenging and fun event for owners and dogs!

Also working on a Christmas party for early December!  More to come….  Overall it has been a really hot but busy summer.  Looking forward the cool fall!

SouthWest:
We are currently gathering our membership.

WestCoast:
The ISSDCWest eGroup is a joint project of the ISSDC-PNW (Pacific Northwest) and the ISSDC-West Coast area chapters. As our geography covers a vast area, we plan on many virtual activities and fun.

NorthEast:
The ISSDC Northeast Chapter has been started. Within the first week 20 members have joined the chapter. Membership is free for 2006. We kicked off the Chapter with a Photo Contest. The winner’s photo will represent the ISSDC NE Chapter. There are a few ideas that are being tossed around at this time. We are looking at doing a couple Shiloh Socials in the next few months.

Since the Northeast covers a large territory we thought it might be best to schedule two Shiloh Socials (meet and greet) in different areas. In addition to this Susan Ferry has offered to host an event at her place. We are still discussing if it will be a Fall event or a Spring Fling. Rarities is looking for a location to host an August and November show due to cancellations on their schedule. Jan Santini has offered her place to hold these Rarities shows. Details are still being worked out. If this does work out Jan has said she will donate to the Chapter any monies given to her by Rarities for using her property. Thoughts about using these Rarities shows as a fundraiser or doing a Shiloh Specialty are still being tossed around.

Heather Yates was good enough to put together a small database for our members to list where they are from and what type of facilities they have available to them. This will give the chapter a place to see all the member’s locations. We really look for member participation and welcome any and all ideas. We are excited to have this chapter and look forward to all the events that are to come.
