CHAPTER NEWS - February 2006:
Featured monthly as part of our eNewsletter:

Canada | Pacific Northwest | SouthEast | SouthWest | WestCoast

Canada:
February can be a difficult month for Canadians. It generally marks the half-way point of the winter, and with no official holidays until Good Friday, it can be challenging stretch to keep the winter blues at bay.

The exciting news is that February signifies that the Toronto Sportsmen Show is just a few weeks away (March 18th/19th).

The Toronto Sportsman Show is the kickoff event to the Rare Breed Club of Southwestern Ontario show season – the only rare breed organization in Canada. This event is the “crown jewel” of the RBCSWO schedule with a turnout of a few hundred rare breed dogs and literally thousands of public visitors, again being highlighted with the 40 or more shilohs expected in attendance.

Once again, the ISSDC Canada is very proud to present a Shiloh Shepherd Specialty, which when combined with the “regular” RBCSWO shows will allow for five show events in just two days! This provides a great chance for shilohs to earn points towards their breed, Canadian, and Canadian Grand Championship titles. More and more new shiloh owners in Canada are experiencing the joys and social comradery that comes with the events and are strongly encouraged to come out and join in on the fun.

The 2005 final standings were just recently provided by the RBCSWO and we are very pleased to report the excellent representation by the Shilohs (in addition to the many shilohs that earned their championships this year, or became championship pointed):

  • Best of Breed Plush – Miracle’s Silver Bullet (“Gunner”)
  • Best of Breed Smooth – Vision’s Chain of Command (“Chain”)
  • Best of Breed Puppy – CJ’s Chuck – Cheri’s Big Boy (“Chuck”)
  • 2nd in Group – Miracle’s Silver Bullet (“Gunner”)
  • 3rd in Group – Vision’s Chain of Command (“Chain”)
  • 4th in Group – MW’s Captain Johann of Miracle (“Johann”)
  • 4th in Puppy Group – Pinetree’s Meadow Dancer (“Meadow”)
  • 5th in Puppy Group – Miracle’s Flaming Inferno (“Torch”)
  • 4th Place Top Dog – Miracle’s Silver Bullet (“Gunner”)
  • 5th Place Top Dog – Vision’s Chain of Command (“Chain”)
  • 10th Place Top Puppy – Pinetree’s Meadow Dancer (“Meadow”)

Please do not hesitate to post any questions that you may have about the coming shows on forums, or email us at info@shilohshepherds.ca.

Pacific Northwest:
We are currently working on our membership application and forming our egroup. More updates coming soon.

SouthEast:
We've already started to roll in the Southeast. We have close to 30 memberships so far!!! Way to go ISSDC/SE!

The SE chapter is getting ready to kick of our first event on February 25, 2006. It will be a day of Temperament Testing and Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Testing and lots of good fun! Come join us (you don’t have to be part of the Chapter but we would love you to signup) from 10 am to 4pm at the Childhelp Center in Lignum, VA near Culpeper. Plan on a busy day testing our dogs skills and our own! Bring a picnic lunch for you and your dog – don’t forget lots of water and a water bowl. This testing will make them really thirsty. The event is held in a huge warm barn so don’t worry about getting too cold. I have directions posted on the egroup under Files – Childhelp Directions. To RSVP call me (Heather O’Connor) at 410-544-1384.

Also the SE Chapter is going to Cesar Millan on March 4 in Philadelphia, PA. The tickets are all sold out but we just got wind that he is coming to DC in the very near future (Now they tell us Gloria!) Gloria, a couple other chapter members and I are heading out for a day of education and a great lunch. I am sure we will have lots to tell you when we get back!

March 31 to April 2 we'll be at the Pet Expo in Chantilly VA near Dulles airport. We'll have a booth set up so we need all the Shiloh representatives we can get. Please plan to come and show off your Shiloh friends. Lots of great shopping, too.

We still haven't received confirmation from Rarities, but we're hoping they'll have a show at the Expo that same weekend. So mark your calendars! We really want to see everyone out there!

We still have plans for a heart clinic in March/April. We'll get the word out as soon as we have a date for you.

Enjoy the cool weather everyone. Spring is on the way already. If you have any ideas for events this year or next, please bring them on.

SouthWest:
On January 14th, the first official meeting of the ISSDC-SW was held in Houston, Texas. It was held in the parking lot of the clinic holding the annual well-dog clinic testing hearts, eyes and blood work. Memberships to the ISSDC and the ISSDC-SW were promoted during our short meeting. Also discussed were the goals we wanted to reach in our chapter. And an upcoming election of officers.

We are working with the NKC to hold several Shiloh Specialties this year. Our NKC representative, Ron Collins, is every excited about helping us to hold our specialty shows.

I would like to encourage everyone in our chapter area to join our local chapter at their earliest convenience. Our first year membership is free. An online membership application is available on our ISSDC website.
